Inorganic N extraction, soil moisture and gas samples analyzing

Jan. 31, 2006

Conducted soil inorganic N extraction with 2M KCl and filterate the extracted solution and then store in the freezer.

Conducted soil moisture measurement with dry method

Asked NSTL to analyze gas samples we collected last Saturday in the field.

Gas and soil cores samplings

Jan .28, 2006

Collected gas samples in all sites for N2O gas flux.

Collected soil cores in all sites for soil moisture, nitrate and ammonia analyzing.

Took 0ld poly-bags (with 10cm intact soil cores) and buried new poly-bags (with 10cm intact soil cores) in RCF, RWB,RWG, and RCG.

- lost a poly-bag in RWB and left a poly-bag in RWG owing to frozen.

Fig. .1. A polyethylene bag contained 10cm intact soil core was buried around gas collecting point in RWB.

Groundwater gas sampling

Jan. 25, 2006

Collected 18 samples (10ml) of groundwater and inserted into 20ml evacuated vials in North and South Ron Risdal farm site.

Stored 4 oC in the lab.

Gas sampling and a data logger for air temp.

Jan. 16, 2006

Collected gas samples on soil surface in LWB,LWG,JWB,JWG,RWB,RWG,RCG and RCF.

Installed a data logger with an air temp. sensor in RWB (measuring 4min interval, recording 1hr interval, 3:30 PM)

Manifold (vials evacuation equipment) set up

Jan. 11, 2006

Dr. Tom Isenhart set up a manifold (vials evacuation equipment) in the lab. Using the equipment, we can flush sampling vials with He gas and then evacuate the vials with a vacume pump easily.
